Hatfield Indonesia moderates Ocean Talks at Our Ocean Conference 2018

Nov 09, 2018

Hatfield Indonesia recently participated in the annual Our Ocean Conference in Bali from October 29-30. The focus of the conference was to generate commitments to maintain the sustainability of our oceans by enhancing collaborations and partnerships between stakeholders, leading to concrete and actionable commitments.

Hatfield’s Marine Unit led two sessions for the Ocean Talks and one Side Event, with invited speakers and participants consisting of marine conservation and fisheries management experts, entrepreneurs, fishermen and practitioners. The first session, “Technology and Tools for Maritime Safety and Security”, was moderated by Priska Widyastuti and discussed lessons learned related to utilizing technology to assist Indonesian fishermen to ensure the safety of their vessel and crew. The second Ocean Talk, “Strategic Direction for Coral Triangle: Update and Way Forward for Regional Plan of Action (RPOA)”, was moderated by Dr. Lida Pet-Soede and discussed the findings of the recent RPOA review (led by Dr. Pet-Soede), highlighting the continued relevance of this important multi-national collaborative initiative. Lida also led a separate Side Event on this topic, with the audience invited to join in the development of the next RPOA.
