Hatfield Wins EMA of BC Award

Jun 14, 2018

(l-r) Royden Heays (SNC-Lavalin VP Major Projects, JHGSRP Project Director), Hatfield's Alan Stockwell, Amber Ashenhurst, Garth Taylor (President), and Valerie Masterman.

Hatfield attended the EMA of BC Environmental Management Awards Gala on June 13, 2018 and was awarded the Regulatory Challenge Award for its work on BC Hydro’s John Hart Generating Station Replacement Project. Hatfield’s Amber Ashenhurst, the Project’s Environmental Manager and the defined authority for ensuring day-to-day implementation of the Project Construction and Commissioning Environmental Management Plans, was tasked with ensuring environmental compliance for the Project under extremely challenging conditions.

Located amidst numerous environmentally sensitive areas including the Campbell River, Elk Falls Provincial Park, federally listed species at risk wetland habitat, and the drinking water reservoir for the City of Campbell River, the Project has presented a number of significant environmental management challenges to be addressed with regulators and stakeholders. To ensure protection of the environment and enable project-specific compliant construction activities, Hatfield assessed the environmental risks and sensitivities while requesting endorsement of Project environmental documents from DFO, FLNRO&RD, BC Parks and the City of Campbell River. Under these challenging conditions, Hatfield has demonstrated unprecedented environmental protection and has developed professional, trusting and respectful relationships with the contractors, regulators and stakeholders.
