Hatfield participates in the Third International Forum on Water and Food

Nov 15, 2011

Representatives from Hatfield will be chairing a session and showcasing knowledge management initiatives at the International Forum on Water and Food in Tshawane, South Africa from November 14 – 17th.

The International Forum on Water and Food is the premier gathering of water and food scientists working on improving water management for agricultural production in developing countries. Mr. Sokhem Pech, Senior International Governance Specialist at Hatfield, will be chairing the Andes-Mekong session intended to explore and share critical elements of the respective development challenges faced by the Andes and Mekong basins. From benefit sharing mechanisms in the Andes to improvement of hydropower power planning and implementation in the Mekong, the session will consider the role of stakeholder involvement, integrated assessment tools and the role of institutions.

Hatfield has provided a range of institutional and environmental support to the Mekong River Commission since 1998, and has assisted the Challenge Program on Water and Food (CPWF) Mekong Basin Development Challenge since 2007. Hatfield has also implemented knowledge management systems for river basin organizations around the world, including the Mekong, Nile, Orange-Senqu, Limpopo and Kunene Rivers. Hatfield has pioneered an innovative approach to presenting water and environmental information and conducting capacity development programs through the River Awareness Kit (RAK) approach.

Grant Bruce, President of Hatfield, Simon Hughes, Director of Hatfield Consultants Africa, and Sokhem Pech will be on-hand at the Forum to showcase Hatfield’s knowledge management systems and River Awareness Kits as part of the Share Fair event on Wednesday November 16th at 13h00.

In addition to chairing a session, Mr. Pech is also part of the Policy Impact Panel (PIP) to provide guidance on the Forum and provide recommendations for Phase 2 of the CPWF programme.
