Simon has 22 years of experience in southern and central Africa, and Canada. Simon holds a BSc (Honours) in Environmental Science from the University of Stirling in Scotland, and a MSc (cum laude) in GIS: Environmental Geography from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. He has operational geomatics project experience working in sub-arctic, temperate, tropical, sub-tropical, and semi-arid environments, and a variety of institutional and commercial settings for private sector, transboundary and government clients. Simon has significant technical and project management experience, leading or participating substantively in large multi-disciplinary projects across Africa, including landcover mapping and forest mapping in Botswana and across the SADC region and portions of central Africa; tourism planning and development projects in Botswana; remote sensing for climate resilience projects in Uganda, Malawi and Rwanda; a series of knowledge management and environmental education projects for transboundary water management in southern Africa (Orange-Senqu, Limpopo and Kunene River basins); a basin stakeholder assessment for the Cuvelai River Commission; and development of regional and national agricultural knowledge management systems – CCARDESA (SADC) and currently the ZimAgriHub in Zimbabwe.
