Description

PTHI is seeking a Social Specialist with excellent social safeguard knowledge and experience to join our team. A practical understanding of national requirements as well as international safeguard policies will be required for this position. The ideal candidate will have broad sectoral and geographic experience in the public and private sectors. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess solid project management and communication skills.

As a Social Specialist, your overall responsibility is to contribute to project deliverables based on tasks assigned by the Project Manager (PM) and/or Project Director (PD). You are expected to provide a suitable level of technical competency on the subject area(s) for which you are responsible. Your role includes supporting proposal development, project implementation, and may include coordination and supervision of other staff and/or sub-consultants. As part of your responsibilities, you will also support marketing and business development activities with the purpose of developing new opportunities for the Company. In addition, you may be asked to assume some management responsibility, at the project level.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to and as needed, manage the design, delivery, analysis and reporting of project deliverables including socio-economic and culture baselines, impact assessments, management plans, CSR studies, due diligence audits, gender assessments, land acquisition and resettlement plans, and Indigenous Peoples plan.
  • Support the management of internal project activities including preparation of project work plans, schedules, budgets, technical activities, and coordination of technical staff and sub-consultants to ensure efficient use of corporate resources, and the preparation and editing of documents.
  • Engage with stakeholders and coordinate stakeholder workshops, field teams, and sub-contractors to ensure robust data collection.
  • Ensure QA/QC on project outputs to ensure the highest possible standards to ensure that project outputs are completed on time, on budget, and to acceptable corporate standards.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team conducting projects throughout Indonesia.
  • Report in Bahasa Indonesia and English.
  • Maintain good communication with clients, particularly when conducting field surveys.
  • Participate in various marketing initiatives to support on-going business development.

Education and Experience:

  • Graduate degree or equivalent combination of academic training and experience in social management relevant fields, or equivalent post-secondary education, from a reputable university.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in managing and implementing projects related to social and health impact assessments (AMDAL, ESHIA, and ESMF), social due diligence, social management and mitigation, and other services including land acquisition and resettlement (LARAP) preferably in a consulting environment and with a demonstrable track record of increasing responsibilities.
  • Experience in human rights, worker safety, gender mainstreaming, and community security assessment is an advantage.
  • Proficient with national regulations regarding social impact assessments and permitting.
  • Experience implementing projects complying with international standards/safeguards (ESMF, IPPF, PF, and RF), e.g., International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards and World Bank Environmental and Social Framework.
  • Experience in developing and recommending studies and approaches for clients to achieve compliance with international standards for social risk management.
  • Experience operating in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and teamwork; and an ability/interest to work in the field, occasionally in remote locations for extended periods of time.
  • Experience in leading or managing social impact assessments, due diligence, and/or social management planning and monitoring for projects in Indonesia.
  • Experience in reporting and project management, using tools to track time management, budget management, and team management.
  • Experience with designing and implementing scientific studies/field programs and managing field teams and the collection baseline data.
  • Experience with preparing regulatory applications for approvals and possess a sound working knowledge of national and provincial social legislation.
  • Experience operating in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and teamwork; and an ability/interest to work in the field, occasionally in remote locations for extended periods of time.

Other Assets/Skills:

  • Excellent analytic and research skills (leveraging a sound knowledge of scientific literature).
  • Working knowledge of Indonesian regulations and international standards related to natural resources, infrastructure, and extractives.
  • Ability to support business development and marketing activities using modern networking
    skills and able to leverage an existing network in the private sector, government, nongovernmental organizations and/or universities to develop new business opportunities.
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills in both Bahasa Indonesia and English.
