Hatfield has been in business for 48 years and has worked on some of the most significant infrastructure projects in B.C., both from the project development and implementation perspectives. We are now one of the largest independent environmental consultancies headquartered in Western Canada. Hatfield has successfully led provincial and federal impact/environmental assessments (EA) of major projects over many years and supported the delivery of large, complex infrastructure projects. Hatfield has a strong team of Managers and Partners that will support and guide this position. The successful candidate will possess a solid understanding of federal and BC provincial EA legislation and review processes. Based on a broad knowledge of and multiple years’ experience with the coordination of EA’s, including Indigenous, regulatory and community engagement, the ideal candidate will revel in the challenges of a diversity of infrastructure projects across multiple sectors (e.g., climate change adaptation, transportation and energy infrastructure, mining, coastal and marine development). Furthermore, they will have a broad understanding of interdisciplinary considerations for managing complex and long-term EAs.
- Support the management and coordination of EA teams through the project assessment process and concurrent or subsequent permitting requirements.
- Coordinate field work logistics, including participation of Indigenous assistants
- Coordinate and participate in regulatory, Indigenous, stakeholder and public engagement meetings, including the preparation of presentation materials and minutes.
- Coordinate the preparation of EA documentation (Initial and Detailed Project Descriptions, Impact Statement/Application).
- Work with teams of environmental specialists and technicians (both internal to Hatfield and sub-consultants) across a range of valued components to assess potential project effects and define mitigations strategies.
- Support project management tasks including the creation and monitoring of budgets and schedules, the development of sub-consultant contracts and monthly invoicing.
- Supporting business development opportunities, including the writing of proposals
- Ensure compliance with Hatfield’s Health and Safety and Quality Management Plans, client health and safety protocols, and other external requirements and regulations.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum undergraduate degree in a relevant environmental discipline (fisheries, aquatics, ecology, environmental science/studies)
- Two to five years of progressive work experience, preferably in a professional consulting context.
- Appropriate qualifications for work in British Columbia and Alberta, and a valid Canadian driver’s license.
- Knowledge and understanding of federal and BC provincial EA legislation and processes (preferably new legislation) based on consulting or regulatory experience.
- Experience supporting project EAs, including coordination of technical disciplines and assessment reporting requirements
- Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and teamwork.
- Motivated self-starter with a positive attitude and an ability to collaborate respectfully with others, even in stressful situations.
- Ability and interest to work in the field, occasionally in remote locations.
- Demonstrated aptitude for project management and coordination, and excellent organization and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to support business development opportunities, including writing proposals and marketing materials.
- Desire to take on greater responsibility and authority with increasing experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Aptitude with MS Suite of tools (Project, SharePoint, Excel)
