Garth specializes in the environmental management of complex, large-scale industrial development projects. Over his 20 years with Hatfield Consultants, he has contributed to numerous large infrastructure projects in British Columbia, including as Environmental Assessment Lead for the 185 MW Meikle Wind Energy Project, as Environmental Design Manager for the $2.5-billion Port Mann Highway 1 Project and as Environmental Manager for the Sea-to-Sky Highway Improvement Project. Garth also has considerable Environmental Impact Assessment expertise having overseen EIA’s in Canada, Asia and Africa and is experienced in the development and implementation of Environmental Management and Monitoring Plans. In addition to his project experience, Garth has previously served as President Director of PT Hatfield Indonesia and has been a senior environmental specialist and partner with Hatfield Consultants since 2008. Garth is currently serving as President.
Martin Davies, M.E.S., R.P.Bio., Senior Vice-President
Martin’s 25 years of experience at Hatfield Consultants have focused primarily on environmental monitoring and ecotoxicology issues related to mining, pulp and paper, energy, and oil sands industries. He has designed and implemented numerous Environmental Effects Monitoring (EEM) programs in receiving environments throughout western Canada and internationally. In addition to his expertise in environmental monitoring, Martin has worked on several environmental impact assessments (EIAs); led independent, third-party reviews of EIAs in multiple countries; and facilitated multi-stakeholder environmental management processes. He has extensive Southeast Asia experience, and previously served as vice-president of PT Hatfield Indonesia. He has been a partner at Hatfield Consultants since 2004.
With more than 30 years’ experience providing environmental services to clients around the world, Grant understands the unique cultural, institutional, and technical complexities involved with designing and implementing environmentally sound projects in different jurisdictions. His broad international expertise, coupled with his knowledge of quality management systems and environmental capacity-building programs, helps clients in the oil and gas, mining, pulp and paper, forestry, and agriculture sectors meet their environmental goals. Grant is also a strong advocate of using remote sensing, geographic information systems, and web-based information technologies to enhance the environmental management and monitoring services offered by Hatfield Consultants. Since joining Hatfield in 1990, Grant has served in a variety of capacities including; President of Hatfield Consultants from 2011 to 2017, Vice President from 2002 to 2011, and President of PT Hatfield Indonesia from 1998 to 1999.
Andy Dean, Ph.D., M.Sc.
Andy has 15 years of experience helping companies and organizations improve their environmental programs with geographic information systems, remote sensing, and environmental information systems. As a specialist in geomatics and remote sensing, he has worked with projects in the mining, energy, climate change, water resources, and biodiversity conservation sectors to harness the benefits of these technologies for improved management decisions. As well, Andy is an experienced project manager, having managed environmental projects in North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. He served as vice-president of PT Hatfield Indonesia from 2008 to 2011 and Director of Calgary Operations from 2015 to 2016.
Wade N. Gibbons, Ph.D., R.P.Bio.
With 23 years’ experience managing environmental projects for the pulp and paper, oil and gas, and mining industries, Wade has acquired vast knowledge of best environmental practices. His work concentrates on fisheries and aquatics monitoring, examining how fish respond to environmental stressors such as discharges from pulpmills, municipal wastewater facilities, hydroelectric projects, and mines. This research has helped develop tools for assessing the cumulative effects of industrial development on fish. In recent years, Wade’s work has focused on the oil sands region of northern Alberta, where he has contributed to the Regional Aquatics Monitoring Program – a long-term program that studies the effects of oil sands development on regional waterways. A senior environmental specialist at Hatfield since 2001, Wade became partner in 2002.
Daniel Moats, B.Sc., Dipl.T.
In his 12 years with Hatfield Consultants, Dan has provided managerial and technical expertise to a wide range of environmental projects. His interdisciplinary education combined with extensive field experience has helped our clients in the oil and gas, pulp and paper, linear development, forestry, and mining industries meet their environmental monitoring and management goals. As well, he regularly contributes his knowledge to First Nations and non-governmental organizations in need of environmental monitoring, contaminant testing, and fish and aquatic habitat assessments. Dan has proved an effective manager of complex environmental programs, excelling at delivering projects of superior technical quality on time and on budget. He has served as senior environmental specialist at Hatfield Consultants since 2008, becoming partner in 2012.
Adeline Saito, M.B.A, C.P.A., C.G.A.
With over 20 years of experience in financial accounting and management, Adeline contributes expertise in corporate management and business operations. She specializes in defining and analyzing complex business issues, improving financial performance from a strategic perspective, developing solutions and implementing changes. As Chief Operating Officer, Adeline manages operational efficiencies and synergies across corporate activities. She brings a forward-thinking approach with a focus on fostering a safe, collaborative and respectful culture and working environment for Hatfield’s employees and clients. Additionally, Adeline provides leadership for day-to-day office operations, ensuring that key function-area activities are aligned with the approved strategies and objectives of the business. Adeline became a Hatfield partner in 2014.
Tim Bennett has 19 years of consulting and regulatory experience in water resource management, hydrology, hydrogeology, environmental management and permitting. He has planned, implemented and managed numerous site investigations and baseline studies, modelling and environmental impact assessments, and compliance monitoring programs at hydroelectric, mining and other industrial projects. Tim was also formerly a regulator with the BC Ministry of Environment, and responsible for water management, permitting and licensing in the South Coast region. Tim has worked on over 200 applications for permits under the Environmental Management Act, Water Act and/or Mines Act and been involved with environmental assessment, management and monitoring, and/or compliance actions on over 20 major projects with potential for surface water and groundwater impacts. Tim has been the Manager of Hatfield’s Water Resources Group since 2014, and became a partner in 2016.
Angus specializes in strategic guidance, planning and management of environmental and regulatory aspects for development projects located in Canada and internationally. With over 12 years consulting experience in Canada, he has managed and participated in several provincial and federal environmental assessment reviews on behalf of client infrastructure projects across the industry spectrum, including ports and marine terminals, pipelines, rapid transit, airports, highways and bridges, and renewables. Angus is adept in coordinating multidisciplinary and collaborative technical teams, and routinely participates in regulatory and Aboriginal engagement. He also has experience managing and overseeing environmental compliance and monitoring aspects during project construction. Angus has been a senior environmental manager at Hatfield Consultants since 2013, becoming a partner in 2016.
Jason brings over 15 years of experience helping organizations and companies to use electronic systems to better manage the environment and to improve people’s lives. Jason has worked with a wide range of clients, including mining, energy, and aquaculture companies, along with international organizations that include United Nations agencies and Multilateral Development Banks. Jason has been the Manager of Hatfield’s Environmental Information Systems group since 2011, and became a Hatfield partner in 2016.
