Implementation of No-Till and Reduced Till systems on agricultural lands have impacts on greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions and have resulted in opportunities for generating GHG offsets. PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) assesses the validity and accuracy of reported No-Till claims in order for carbon aggregators to comply with regulations set by the Tillage System Management Protocol of Alberta. Hatfield provides PwC with independent assessments of No-Till agriculture practices, using satellite imagery, to add qualitative and quantitative analytical aspects to the auditing process.
The overall objective of the service is to provide remote sensing and GIS expertise to acquire and analyze different sources of Earth Observation (EO) imagery to assess the accuracy of reported acreage under No-Till tillage practices for a sub-sample of field years in Alberta.
This service, along with our experience in developing and verifying methodologies for the application of remote sensing for forest carbon and land cover change, positions Hatfield as a leader in the field of remote sensing to support carbon market mechanisms.
