Featured Projects
Remote Sensing for Sustainable Development Reporting in the Oil Sands
Hatfield worked with Shell Canada Ltd. and Albian Sands Energy Inc. to use remote sensing technologies for environmental monitoring of their Canadian oil sands operations, and support their commitments to sustainable development reporting and ecosystem stewardship. Satellite images were used to assess mine activity area and habitat fragmentation within the lease area, watershed and region. more>>
Flood Mapping and Vulnerability in the Mekong River Basin
Annual flooding in the Mekong River Basin causes loss of life and damage to infrastructure and to agricultural and industrial production further hindering socio-economic development. Hatfield has developed a system to enable Near-Real-Time flood mapping using RADARSAT imagery and to assess flood vulnerability. more>>
Nunavik Lake Ice Service
The Inuit people of the Nunavik region of Northern Quebec rely heavily on Arctic char fisheries as a source of food security, fishing all winter in the frozen lakes and rivers of the region where they over-winter. The Polar View Lake Ice Service Portal provides simple, online access to lake freeze-up, lake ice status and break-up information for two study areas derived from RADARSAT-1 data. more>>
Agricultural GHG Offsets Verification Using Satellite Imagery
Hatfield is providing remote sensing and GIS expertise to verify conservation tillage practices as part of a Green House Gas (GHG) offset project in Alberta. Hatfield uses high-resolution Ikonos and GeoEye-1 images and medium resolution Landsat images to assess and validate no-till farming and land area claims as part of the verification process for provincially regulated carbon credits. more>>
