Tailings Pond Migratory Waterbird Monitoring
As part of a regional bird deterrent and monitoring program for the Athabasca oil sands region, Hatfield has conducted tailings pond monitoring for migratory waterbirds. Oil sands operations are required through the Alberta Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (AEPEA) and the Canada Migratory Birds Convention Act to take reasonable measures to prevent birds from coming into contact with oil sands process-affected water. more>>
Environmental Monitoring Services for Construction and Operation of Mine Developments
Hatfield is responsible for developing and implementing the Environmental Monitoring Plan (EMP) as part of the construction and operation of the Joslyn North Mine Early Works Project. The EMP outlines environmental monitoring requirements during the construction and operational phases of the Project, as well as applicable health and safety requirements for the monitoring services. more>>
Regional Aquatics Monitoring Program (RAMP)
Since 2004 Hatfield has implemented and managed RAMP in the Athabasca oil sands region of northern Alberta. RAMP is a multidisciplinary environmental monitoring program for active developments in a region containing the second largest oil reserves in the world. RAMP monitors aquatic ecosystems in the Athabasca oil sands region and addresses specific issues related to the aquatic environment that are important to communities of the region. more>>
Environmental Assessment and Monitoring of Oil Sands Development
The Athabasca oil sands of northern Canada are a significant component of the world’s petroleum resources, about one-third the size of known reserves of conventional crude oil in the entire world.
