Featured Projects
Biodiversity Conservation Planning in Viet Nam
Maintaining large areas of protected land and corridors between protected areas is essential to promoting biodiversity. In Thua Thien Hue Province in Central Viet Nam, Hatfield worked in collaboration with WWF Greater Mekong Programme and the Government of Viet Nam to support the management of the Green Corridor, an area containing some of the largest blocks of lowland forest in Viet Nam. more>>
Biodiversity Survey for the Mining Industry
Hatfield designed and implemented a terrestrial ecology survey for PT Newmont Horas Nauli (Newmont's) gold mine operation in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Surveys were implemented to obtain baseline environmental information prior to commencing mining activities, and to address potential issues related to endangered wildlife, including orangutan, tiger, and serow. more>>
Fauna and Flora Assessment in Central Kalimantan
PT Hatfield Indonesia assessed the potential impacts to biodiversity from a mining development project in Central Kalimantan, in support of collaboration between a leading international NGO and a major coal mining company. The study area is world-renowned for its biodiversity, and undertaking mining in such an area requires careful management of impacts. The assessment encompassed all active and proposed coal and gold mining, including locally and nationally issued mining concessions or licenses, and considered any implications related to the new mining law in Indonesia. more>>
Assessment and Conservation of Biodiversity at a Nickel Mine
PT Hatfield Indonesia assisted PT Weda Bay Nickel (WBN) with biodiversity surveys in its mining concession area in Central Halmahera, North Maluku Province, Indonesia. Based on the survey results, protected and/or vulnerable species were identified, and recommendations on biodiversity conservation strategies were developed. To raise awareness about the value of local biodiversity, Hatfield developed a fully illustrated booklet titled “Important Plant Species of Halmahera”, which focused on native plant species with significant ecological, economic and cultural values. more>>
