Hatfield Indonesia assisted with preparation of the final version of the environmental impact assessment, management and monitoring plan for the PT Tel pulpmill in Sumatra before it commenced operation in 1999. Since then we have been engaged continuously in partnership with mill personnel in the ongoing monitoring of the mill, including:
- Wastewater discharge to the Lematang River.
- Air emissions.
- Solid waste disposal and landfill effects on groundwater, buffer zone vegetation management and land use.
- Community perceptions regarding the mill.
Hatfield Indonesia is responsible for preparing monthly written summaries, and detailed, comprehensive semi-annual reports on our findings for submission by PT TEL to the government of Indonesia and to local authorities. The mill has been awarded PROPER Green status by the government, which is the highest level of environmental performance yet achieved by industrial operations in Indonesia.
