Enhanced Mine Management Through Geographical Information Systems
As a leading energy company in Southeast Asia, Banpu Public Company Ltd. understands the benefit of a geographic information system (GIS) for tracking their coal mine operations. In 2006, they asked Hatfield Consultants to design and implement an integrated system to help trace the environmental impacts of these mines as they progress toward sustainable development.
Working with Banpu, we assessed their needs for geospatial information and designed a system that kept in line with their requirements for data, usability, and technical resources. Using our expertise in GIS, we developed a system based on ESRI ArcGIS technology that incorporated a customized database of geographic information and an overall architecture that linked individual mines with offices in Jakarta and Bangkok. After installing the system, we worked with Banpu to integrate new data collection processes into their standard operating procedures.
Now, Banpu is able to view a wealth of data about their mining operations, enabling them to understand their environmental impacts and to act before any activities become an environmental concern. Combining our deep understanding of GIS technologies and environmental management for the mining industry, Hatfield Consultants has helped Banpu continue their energy operations while knowing that cutting-edge solutions are supporting their environmental commitments.
