Banpu Public Company Ltd. (Banpu) is a leading Southeast Asian energy company with coal mining operations in Indonesia, China and Thailand. In support of operational mine management and commitments to environmentally responsible development, Hatfield worked with Banpu to design and implement a corporate geographic information system.
A needs assessment was conducted to determine the design and specification of the geographic information system, including requirements for data, process control; human, hardware and software resource requirements. The implementation is based on ESRI ArcGIS Server technology, with a custom geo-database and system architecture that links the individual mine with offices in Jakarta and Bangkok.
Hatfield was able to integrate GIS with existing standard operating procedures and Banpu’s Business process in their Indominco Mandiri mine due to its understanding and expertise in:
- The surface coal mining industry.
- Environmental management and monitoring requirements in the industry.
- Geographic information technology.
The service is a customized information system that allows Banpu to understand its environmental impacts and to responsibly manage and mitigate these impacts.
