Hatfield provides ongoing environmental consulting support to Terasen Gas on the construction of a natural gas pipeline between Squamish and Whistler, B.C. The 50 km pipeline is being installed within the shoulder of the Sea-to-Sky Highway – one of southwestern British Columbia’s busiest highways, travelled by over 13,000 motor vehicles every day. The site is extremely steep and narrow in places, and crosses or parallels numerous streams, wetlands and lakes.
The project involves liaison between regulators, Terasen Gas, and three on-site contractors. Initial services included:
- Compile technical and environmental information and conduct consultation during detailed design.
- Develop a project environmental management plan.
- Meet permitting and regulatory requirements of multiple government agencies.
Ongoing services include environmental monitoring during the construction phase of the project, and meeting additional permitting and regulatory requirements as they arise.
