Hatfield provides integrated environmental, forestry, GIS and remote sensing, and social assessment services for clients addressing the challenges of climate change. We promote best practices in project implementation. Our approaches to climate change mitigation projects in the agriculture, forestry and other land use (AFOLU) sector meet or exceed current and expected standards and methodologies. We support organisations through the process of carbon project validation and verification.
Services:
For the agriculture, forestry and other land use (AFOLU) sector
- Project feasibility assessment
- Historical and current land cover analysis
- Carbon stock assessment
- Baseline development and predictive landscape modelling
- Project design document development
- Project implementation and monitoring
- Support for validation and verification
For the water resources management sector
- Multi-stakeholder consultation
- Integrated watershed management plans
- Biodiversity conservation
Featured Projects
Reduced emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD)
Hatfield is working on a Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) REDD Pilot Project in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Our contribution, partly funded by the European Space Agency, includes remote-sensing applications, geographic information systems modelling, and forestry products and services in accordance with methodologies developed under the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS).
Integrated water resources management
Hatfield prepared the Integrated Citarum Water Resources Management Project for the Asian Development Bank. Working closely with the Ministry of Forestry and other stakeholders, we developed a plan for biodiversity management of the Citarum Watershed in West Java. The project included spatial planning, community and stakeholder engagement, biodiversity assessment, and developing technical documents.
Mapping of CDM-eligible degraded lands
Hatfield analyzed a time series of remote-sensing data to map degraded grasslands eligible for Afforestation/Reforestation (A/R) activities under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) in Sumatra and Kalimantan, Indonesia. The results helped the International Finance Corporation (IFC) identify degraded lands where commercial rehabilitation could be undertaken, potentially using funding made available through the CDM.
Agricultural GHG Offsets Verification Using Satellite Imagery
Hatfield is providing remote sensing and GIS expertise to verify conservation tillage practices as part of a Green House Gas (GHG) offset project in Alberta. Hatfield uses high-resolution Ikonos and GeoEye-1 images and medium resolution Landsat images to assess and validate no-till farming and land area claims as part of the verification process for provincially regulated carbon credits. more>>
