From 2005 to 2006, Hatfield provided a Coastal Resource Management Specialist as part of an Asian Development Bank (ADB) proposed loan project to rehabilitate and enhance coastal marine habitats. The goal of the project was to improve and diversity the livelihoods of coastal communities within select pilot regions of Java, Sumatra, Lombok, and Kalimantan, Indonesia.
Objectives of the project included:
- Upgrade small-scale coastal fisheries infrastructure.
- Improve and diversify the livelihoods of people living in coastal communities.
- Provide policy and strengthen institutional support in the coastal fisheries sector, primarily to stakeholders at the local level.
Extensive field work and community surveys were conducted to prepare site-specific resource and environmental profiles and to develop a comprehensive integrated coastal fisheries management program. Hatfield prepared the costing of program components for the proposed loan project and prepared technical reports and supporting documents for the ADB.
