Hatfield to present forest fire mapping and snow modelling research at EO Summit
Jun 13, 2017
Researchers from Hatfield Consultants will attend the 2017 EO Summit (https://crss-sct.ca/conferences/csrs2017/) in Montreal, June 20 to 22, to present Hatfield’s remote sensing application development work in Oil Sands region of Alberta, Canada.
With Dr. Jinkai Zhang from Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, Hatfield will present some lessons learned from the remote sensing response to the Horse River Fire in 2016, which caused major damage and initiated the evacuation of Fort McMurray. This presentation will integrate early results from a new Canadian Space Agency Earth Observation Application Development (EOADP) project on rapid radar burned area mapping for wildfire response. Join the session on Wednesday June 21 (Session FW-4).
Mr. Jean-Simon Michaud will present results of another research and development project that Hatfield implemented in the Oil Sands region in collaboration with German company Vista GmbH, which focused on snow mapping through integration of C- and X-Band SAR and a spatially-explicit hydrological model. Join the session on Thursday June 22 (Session OS-7B).
