Ethics and Stewardship at Hatfield Consultants Noted by Business Journal

Oct 1 2007

Thomas Boivin, President of Hatfield Consultants, had an opportunity recently to outline the company’s longstanding commitment to ethical business practices and environmental stewardship. Interviewed by the North Shore Business Journal, Boivin remarked on some of the innovative approaches to business that ultimately led to receipt of a Nexen Award for Excellence in Corporate Social and Ethical Responsibility this past May (2007).

Boivin was quoted in the article as saying: “We’re a for-profit company of course here in Canada, but we give back quite a bit of our profits to helping out with international work, and also we give back quite a bit to have profit sharing with our staff….”

Though based locally, Hatfield Consultants thinks globally. Headquartered in West Vancouver, the environmental consulting company is active in many corners of the globe and maintains offices and partnerships in Indonesia, Thailand and Chile.

“So if our company does well we re-invest that in our staff, in our people and also in hopefully some good causes overseas as well,” Boivin added.

Since 1994, Hatfield has been at the forefront of research, studies, and mitigation work related to Agent Orange Dioxin in the environment and human population of Viet Nam. This groundbreaking scientific research has been instrumental in helping raise international awareness regarding the impacts of Agent Orange dioxin on the human and natural environment of Viet Nam.

Hatfield also responded to the physical, social, and economic devastation that resulted from the December 2004 tsunami through providing technical assistance to support in sustainable reconstruction and restoring livelihoods.

At home in western Canada, Hatfield Consultants is taking a pivotal role in the Sea to Sky Highway redevelopment project linking the twin venues of Vancouver and Whistler for the 2010 Olympics through implementing the environmental management plan.

Boivin was quoted as saying: “There’s a real need for very good high-quality environmental work to be done; to be monitoring the impacts of all these huge multi-billion dollar developments going on….so that’s been quite rewarding work for us.”
