General Description:
The OHS and QMS Specialist is responsible for providing day-to-day health and safety and quality management system support to all staff and management. Actual time commitment for this work is approximately 1 day per week on average as OHS Specialist, and 1 day per week on average as QMS Specialist.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS):
- Maintain the Health and Safety Management Plan as required for Hatfield and ISNetworld
- Prepare and provide training for OHS topics, such as WHMIS
- Co-chair the Joint OHS Committee and prepare notes and agendas
- Present safety information at the monthly staff meeting
- Review incidents, near misses, etc. and discuss a Joint OHS meetings
- Maintain records of OHS incidents for the company
- Assist Human Resources Manager with WCB reporting requirements
- Prepare reports for management (or Project) review
- Update CanQual and ISNetworld OHS statistics and new Owner requirements
- Be qualified as a First Aid Attendant for the company
Quality Management Systems:
- Prepare and edit the Hatfield Quality Management Plan and the Quality System Procedures
- Conduct training in QMS and procedures (e.g., create PPT presentations)
- Keep records of training; prepare certificates as needed
- Conduct internal audits and field surveillances
- Verify the control of records and documents
- Prepare and follow up on Nonconformity Reports (NCRs) and Opportunities for Improvement (OFIs)
- Prepare and follow through on Corrective Action and Preventive Action reports (CARs and PARs)
- Verify actions are occurring to prevent the re-occurrence of nonconformities
- Collect customer satisfaction data
- Prepare reports for management review (may involve looking at trends)
Competencies:
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail is mandatory
- Self-directed, but also able to work well with others (e.g., training, audits)
- Conscientious and ability to follow procedures
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Intermediate user of MS Office; Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
Education and/or Experience:
- Minimum 3 years experience in an Environmental Specialist role or OHS/QMS Administrator
- ISO 9001 and Internal Auditor course
- Introductory ISO14001 course
- Joint OHS Committee course: Responsibilities of Joint Health and Safety Committees (or equivalent)
- First Aid Level 1
