General Description: The Environmental Manager will be assigned to Hatfield’s Infrastructure and Environmental Management Group and will be responsible for overseeing environmental design and construction inputs for a wide range of infrastructure projects. The Environmental Manager will lead multi-disciplinary teams responsible for supporting large-scale Design-Build and P3 development projects by ensuring project compliance with all relevant provincial and federal environmental regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide environmental inputs to project teams to mitigate environmental impacts and ensure design and construction compliance with federal and provincial (BC and Alberta) environmental legislative and regulatory requirements.

Manage a team of environmental specialists and technicians responsible for conducting environmental baseline surveys and impact assessment studies as needed to support project objectives.

Identify and assist development of fish and wildlife habitat enhancement/compensation opportunities required to offset project-specific habitat impacts.

Participate in field surveys as required in support of ongoing project design requirements.

Provide consultation on environmental protection to developers and engineers.
Competencies:

Have demonstrated reporting and project management skills.

Experience with obtaining permits, licenses and authorizations from local, municipal, provincial, and federal authorities in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Experience with managing or leading stakeholder consultations.

Ability to interpret and modify AutoCAD and detailed engineering drawings.

Excellent problem solving skills (analyze a case study or situation and recommend solution(s)).

Have excellent communication (verbal and written – technical or scientific writing).
Education and Experience:
-
B.Sc. or higher degree in biological sciences with fisheries and/or wildlife experience and appropriate qualifications for work in either BC or Alberta.

More than five years experience managing environmental aspects of large-scale industrial projects, preferably in linear development.

Familiarity with federal and provincial (BC and Alberta) environmental regulatory and permitting requirements associated with linear development projects.

Experience working in large, multi-disciplinary teams is essential.

Experience with a range of environmental disciplines (air quality, noise, surface and groundwater quality, soils, vegetation, fish and fish habitat, contaminated sites, archaeology, First Nations, etc.) is an asset.

Experience operating in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and teamwork; and an ability/interest to work in the field, occasionally in remote locations.
